The Garden Design Society of New Zealand

The Garden Design Society of New Zealand (GDSNZ) is a professional organisation offering a wide range of services and activities to support and encourage excellence in garden design. Its members share a passion for garden design: they come from a variety of backgrounds including practising garden designers, academics, teachers, students, garden owners, landscapers and others who appreciate the value of skilled garden design. Twenty-three Garden Design Society members are creating unique and design focused garden displays on a plinth. The concept is based on an idea Trish Bartleet saw at the TATE gallery in London, which featured a field of similar type sculptural busts/ heads on a grid of plinths. These gardens show the breadth of design possibilities thatsociety members seek to express in full sized gardens. And so, the themes for these mini gardens encompass memory, scented tropical, chinoiserie, edible, forest/ngahiri, and even a fairy garden. The exhibit is positioned between the hospitality marquees, where lots of people will be able to enjoy them and vote on their favourite.

The Garden Fairies

Fairy Forest is our interpretation of a regenerating New Zealand native forest. With imagination, it is what we believe would be a perfect home for fairies. At dusk is when the fairies sing and frolic around the fairy ring. This garden is our interpretation of what this scene could look like.
